After my ordeal on Saturday I was not thrilled about getting back on the bike so I decided to go to the gym and run on the treadmill and work a few weights (or is that let a few weights work me?). My whole body was a little tired after the 81 miller on Saturday (go see the report...it's actually funny) and the fact that I got up a 3:30 Sunday morning, drove 3.5 hours to visit a friend, then drove 3.5 hours home. With all this said, I did run 5 miles on today!!!! Yeah!!! I hopped on the treadmill and ran for about .15 mile and realized my hip felt great. At that point I kicked the treadmill up to 7:30 pace (that's as fast as it will go) and set the incline to 1%. After the treadmill I worked wieghts on my upper body for about 30 minutes (chest, sholders, bia's and tri's). I went back to compare this treadmill run to something I have done in the past and the closest I could find was a 7 mile run at 7:40 pace (149 avg HR). So, today's run wasn't bad in comparison. I just need my hip to hold up so I can get in more miles.

New Entry....

Went to Gruene and rode with the Big Boys 29.3 miles (145 HR) @ 19 mph avg.

____________________________________________________________________

Since I ran 5 miles yesterday I didn't want to over do it on the running this morning and since I am planning on going and riding with the Big Boys this evening I didn't want to bike. So....I decided to run 2 at a little faster pace. My legs have continued to be slightly sore because of all the biking but slowly they are getting better (I think building some new muscles where the're needed). I don't seem to have any joint pain (hip, knees, ankles) which is good. The results of the run seem pretty good compared to a few 2 mile runs last spring. My speed is  faster with a slightly lower heart rate. The only thing is mentally I struggled thinking "this seems too hard". I think with a little more running I'll break through the mental thing. I'm going to keep the milage down for a while to make sure the hip problem doesn't come back.

I'm starting to think about upcoming races and what I want to do. First I want to break 20:00 in a 5K. Then I plan to run a Half. There is one in Gruene on Oct. 29 that I may run. They do have a Full but I know I won't be ready for that. I may even just run the Half as a training run and not push too hard. Beyond that I'm thinking about the Austin 3M, Austin Livestrong, Ft Worth Cowtown and mabye San Antonio.

Here's the results from todays run:

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Bike ride to Hwy 20 then Staples, Martindale and home. This was supposed to be an easy 15 mph ride but after about 10 mile I got board and started to pedal. Ended up with a 28 mile ride with a 17.8 mph avg. ... So much for a recovery ride. I have gained about 2-3 pounds. I think it's in my legs but I hope some of it's in my heart!

Mark 7:20
Then Jesus said: What comes from your heart is what makes you unclean.

Another pain-free 5 miles on the treadmill this morning...! I think I'm getting the hang of this running thing :-) My heart rate was a little lower this time too. I would love for 7:30 to be my marathon pace. I'll probably top it off with a 20+ bike ride this evening.

This evening I added 32 miles biking @ 18 mph avg. speed. Rode with a friend from work. Could have gone faster but my friend was struggling on the way back. We did stop a few time (I normally try not to stop). Now I've got to decide what to do tomorrow...Humm?____________________________________________________________________

2 mile run again this morning. The weather was just right for me, 69 degrees and 68% humidity...! I have run this same 2 mile run five times since my hip quit hurting. Each one has been about the same 7:00 pace. This is my 10K pace but it doesn't feel like I could go for 6 miles at this pace right now. Hopefuly, as I up the milage, I will feel more comfortable at this speed. I really need to get these two mile runs down to 6:15 so I can prepare myself for my sub-20 5K. So far I haven't really been trying to run them any faster than a moderate effort. I also plan to ride 30+ on the bike this evening.

8Be on your guard and stay awake. Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack. 9But you must resist the devil and stay strong in your faith. You know that all over the world the Lord's followers are suffering just as you are.
