No running today just a little thought about my potential marathon time. Here are all my other race PR's (some of which are somewhat outdated). They're all within my running prime (as I've only been running for 3 years. :-) Based on the Race Predictor(s) I've looked at, I should be able to run a much faster marathon than previously accomplished.

PR's                   Marathon Potential

5K (19:42)       =  3:09:14

5 Mile (34:03)  =  3:17:03

10K (43:24)     =  3:19:57

Half (1:30:10)  =  3:07:59

My 5 mile and 10K are both really old PR's (haven't run any more of these) and I know I can run a faster 5K (probably break 19:00).

I have the opposite problem - I need to speed up the 5k, since the marathon has caught up. I definitely think you can go A LOT faster in the full. And you will!

I think you have to take these race predictors with a grain of salt. A lot of it comes down to what type of muscle fibers you have been born with. The shorter the distance the less reliable the predictor. My 5k time says 2:55 marathon - um - no? 10k will be better predictor than a 5k, and a half marathon will be even better. But I do believe there is a correlation, so if a runner brings down the 5k time significantly, the marathon time should come down as well, as long as the necessary training is put in.

With the 800's that you can run, IRJ, your 5k time should be a lot lower, IMO. According to McMillan, someone that can run a 18:30 5k should be running 800's 2:48-2:56 in training, pretty close to what you ran yours in the other day. You should be below 19:00 for sure.

Thanks Joe and David!

DH, I know what you mean about the predictors, I just like to dream. :-) As far as your PR I really think you are going to get to the 2:55. You've just had some bad luck and different things happen. Look at all your other times, they all point to a much faster marathon!
