I was dreading this run but I felt like I had to do it. I went to bed late and got up at 5:00 am to run. I was tired before I started.

The weather conditions were fair: 70 degrees, 68% humidity, 63 degree dew point, no wind.

I believe this gives a fair indication as to my condition right now. I need to run more "fast" miles to get used to a faster cadence. I should be able to keep my heart rate in the 150's throughout a run like this but the low energy didn't allow me to do it today. I'm not training under the RLRF program right now but if I were about four weeks into the training I should be running about this distance and pace, so I feel like I'm on track for preparing for SA Marathon.

I'm happy with my mileage for the last few weeks and my legs (joints) seem to be holding up pretty well. I would like to keep the mileage between 50-60 miles and add in some cross-training when I'm released to ride my bike.

I would say at this point speed is less important than distance. When is the SA marathon?

From DLTheo on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 13:01:58 from 155.130.107.42

Hey, you're in 3rd on the mileage board right now!

From I Just Run on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 13:30:26 from 67.79.11.242

The SA Marathon is Nov. 17th. It's really a warm-up for Boston in April. :-)

From Tom K on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 13:33:45 from 174.58.4.250

HAD to be 18 miles, huh?! Couldn't be 17 miles, right?! Ha Ha. Nice work, man.

From I Just Run on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 13:39:20 from 67.79.11.242

DL,

I didn't realize I was 3rd on the mileage board. :-) All I was worried about is beating Tom K. (Hope he's not listening. :-)

Nice long run, your injury seems to be a non-factor now, fitness is still good.

From SlowJoe on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 18:52:23 from 24.32.57.229

Wow, 18 - you're a better man than I. I probably won't see 18 until October. Nice job!

From rAtTLeTrAp on Tue, Aug 20, 2013 at 21:50:24 from 174.233.194.224

Nice to see you getting the volume back up there. I agree with Scott, it's probably better to focus on distance than speed with so much time left before the race.

From Tom K on Wed, Aug 21, 2013 at 06:25:01 from 174.58.4.250

It should be noted that you, me, Rattletrap, Derunzo, Neasts, and Flatlander are all within 56 miles of each other. This ain't exactly a 2 man race, here! I have to admit, I'm a little intimidated by Rattletrap. Anyone that would run 23 miles FOR a veggie burger is a bit out of my league.

From I Just Run on Wed, Aug 21, 2013 at 08:07:18 from 67.79.11.242

Thanks April and Joe,

The injury is pretty much a non-factor now. A little heaviness and both my shoulders get tried after running a while.

RT,

I would like to run a 10K next month but I'm afraid it would be a marathon pace. That would be embarrassing.

Tom,

I concede to all of those guys (including you). I know RT and Flat were out for months due to injuries (not sure about the others). They are going to come back like a vengeance! I'll probably hurt myself or burn myself out if I try to keep up with any of them or you. :-(

From rAtTLeTrAp on Wed, Aug 21, 2013 at 08:14:38 from 174.233.194.224

Tom - for the record, I ran there for the cold one, the veggie burger was a bonus.

IJR - that depends on what your marathon pace is :)
