10 miles keeping my heart rate at 140 bpm. Aveage Pace was 8:55. It takes a while for my heart to start pumping so the first mile was about 8:00 and most of the other miles a little over 9:00. Callie decided to do her bike then run so we didn't run together. She has another Triathlon on Monday.

I think I may be completly over my knee problem. Now I've got to get my ankles and feet feeling better.

Job 2:7
So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.

Nice 10-miler. I'm almost always concerned about some little injury, I think it goes with the territory.

From flatlander on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 09:57:53 from 76.31.26.153

Glad to hear I have company on the injury front. I am never completely normal, even at the end of a taper. I think if I ran 6 miles medium-slow pace every day and nothing else I might become normal, but who wants to do that.

From Burt on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 09:58:13 from 72.223.90.79

What's up with all you Texans blogging at once?

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 09:59:12 from 67.79.11.242

We're ganging up on you Burt :)

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:00:34 from 67.79.11.242

I think since my knee injury the pain has just decided to keep moving around in my body. If it ever isolates itself in one place I think I'll just cut that part off.

From Burt on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:08:50 from 72.223.90.79

So that's why you don't mess with Texas. They outnumber you. Somebody remembered the Alamo.

Whats your next race?

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:16:57 from 67.79.11.242

Hey Tom,

I'm not sure. I guess I'll run a couple of 5K's this summer. I wanting to run another Marathon in the early fall. Actually I don't have a very good race plan. I haven't been running very long so I'm not really sure how I should plan. Ha...not much of an answer was it? What's yours maybe I'll go there :)

From Tom Slick on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:47:53 from 69.171.160.92

Hey IJR, Do you know MarcE from here on the blog. He's a good ol' Texas family runnerman from Springtown Texas. Is that anywhere near your neck the woods. My next mary is in two weeks at the Utah Valley Marathon but the next time I'm in Texas will be for the Dallas Whiterocks Mary in December.....Maybe this is your next mary???

From JG on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:52:41 from 74.190.55.181

Breaking News: IJR BQ's at TOU with a 3:28:27! :)

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 10:57:10 from 67.79.11.242

I don't know MarcE. I will look him up and try to make contact. I've met and made freinds with a couple of other Texans (and Burt...even though he is not a Texan). I really wish I was running UVM. I'm still trying to figure out how qualify for Boston before September but I'm not sure if that is going to happen. Dallas Whiterock...Humm, I'll look it up. Thanks

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 11:00:56 from 67.79.11.242

Thanks JG,

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get to TOU. I have no idea what or where that is :) Now I feel like I'm in one of those nightmares where you're lost and can't find your way home.:(

From Tom Slick on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 11:10:54 from 69.171.160.92

Hey the TOU is a great fall marathon to do in Utah. You would really enjoy this one and I don't think it has filled up yet. And it's great BQ run too.

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 12:05:36 from 67.79.11.242

Ah... Yes, TOU, I knew that. Are either of you (JG or Tom) going to run it or have you ever run it? I have had some advice concering the altitude and the elevation drop. Any advice on these tow things?

From JG on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 12:51:08 from 74.190.55.181

There are diff't opinions on these things, in part because they affect diff't people differently! Wow, did I just use the same word 3 times in on sentence! Personally, I think altitude has little to no affect on downhill running. Now, if you were running uphill, altitude would quickly become a major factor! I can run a 6:30 pace downhill easily, whereas I would definitely be breathing harder on flat ground. Point is, who cares if there is less oxygen in the air if you can run faster than GMP without breathing hard. You will feel like you are in heaven with cool temps & low humidity after training all summer in heat & humidity! I have found humidity punishes my pace far more than altitude. As far as downhill, it is gradual, so you won't trash your quads, but you would want to do some downhill training to prepare! I would run that course at least 10 minutes faster than a flatter, hotter marathon ... without question ... and if you were in the same shape as you were for OKC, I think you could easily run a 3:30 ... well, not easily - as one never knows what will happen the last 10k - but if you did some downhill training, I would be shocked if you did not run a 3:30 - barring any injury breakdowns!

From flatlander on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 12:55:55 from 198.207.244.102

I agree with JG for the most part. For me, there is definitely an altitude effect, a cool flat marathon at sea level is the fastest one for me. But the one I did last summer at altitude (Utah Valley Marathon) wasn't bad, I got a 10-minute PR over my January marathon run at sea level. Definitely felt the altitude in the last 10K but it was a good race. With all of your running on hills I don't think you would have a problem breaking 3:30, and you might do a whole lot better.

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 13:13:07 from 67.79.11.242

Maybe I just need to go ahead and sign up for this race and train accordingly. I had convienced myself I could run a 3:25:00 in OKC before my knee problem based on my training times...Humm, anybody want to go? Oh yeah, I remember something about Frequent Flyer Miles :)

From Tom Slick on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 13:21:12 from 69.171.160.92

IJR - I'm doing TOU this year, I've done it 3 times before. The altitude shouldn't bother you like JG says. Othere advice: run the hills, up and down...get those hill legs under you? Hills are disquised speed training!!!

From I Just Run on Fri, May 27, 2011 at 13:23:53 from 67.79.11.242

Ha ha, when I come out of my driveway there are hills in both directions. All of the bikers like to come to my area to ride because of the hills :) I should look at the TOC course and compare the incline to what I have near my house.

From Dave S on Sat, May 28, 2011 at 00:05:59 from 4.254.217.122

My vote is for TOU. I guess that's easy for me to say since it's only 45 min from my home. If you get in some good hill training like everyone else mentioned, I think you would do well.

From Rossy on Sat, May 28, 2011 at 22:45:38 from 4.228.243.38

Glad the knee is at least feeling better. Nice 10 miler and have a great weekend!

From I Just Run on Tue, May 31, 2011 at 00:01:34 from 71.41.149.142

Hey Dave,

I'm seriously considering TOU. I'm trying to convince my wife that she would enjoy a quick weekend trip out there :-)
