So I look back at where I was a year and a half ago and realize that I couldn't run a mile without thinking I was going to die. Today I ran a very easy 4 miles at 8:45 pace. I know that's not that fast but as I was running I was thinking how easy this pace feels now. I haven't run many really easy miles lately so it was kinda nice to just relax and run! It was very foggy and humid so I was sweating but my legs and breathing were both relaxed and consistant. I think I'm as ready as I'm going to get for the race on Saturday. I'm not expecting to set a new PR but just run a decent training run. The temperature is supposed to be about 45 which is cold for me. I'll have to wear some extra clothes to try and keep warm and I'm thinking about running in my Brooks Racers and not carry any water (just drink at the aid stations) to take some weight off. The race route is the same route that I've ridden my bike several times, it goes along the Guadalupe river crossing it ocassionally. It's a very nice run or ride.

Here's the simple details of this morning's run:

10/27/2011
Mile Time HR HR % 2 Miles Out and Back
1 8:40:00 129 63%
2 8:50:00 141 72%
3 8:40:00 140 71%
4 8:46:00 142 72%
Total 34:56:00 138 69%
Pace 8:44:00 62 Deg.

he leads me beside quiet waters,

Nice workout! Taking advantage of a faster treadmill, I see! Let me know if you pick a winter marathon, I may run it with you.

Where are you docked today?

From I Just Run on Sun, Oct 09, 2011 at 12:38:45 from 166.137.139.69

We're in Newport RI today.

I'm hoping to run two marathons this winter. I wrote on my profile Las Vegas and Ft Worth but I don't think Las Vegas is a good choice since I have to compete in a big roping finals that week I LV. I think I will do the half though. I need to check into Houston or I may run the Livestrong Full. I definitely want to run Ft Worth. Um figuring Dec. Before I'm really ready. I don't really know what else to consider. I wouldn't mind travelling to get to a good one. I probably won't run OK City this year.

You are always traveling around! How fun. I haven't ever been to Rhode Island. Are you on vacation/work/or giving service to some people in need?

I have a friend that is running the Las Vegas Marathon. Isn't it in the middle of the night...that might be fun.

Good gracious, what kind of oysters are they feeding you on that ship? :-) Fort Worth is one month away! I think you should pick a goal race in Feb to train for, Jan at the earliest! If you do not hit your goal time there, you can always try again in May where there are a couple fast ones. Houston would be good, but I think it is sold out. Keep me posted. How is the fall color?

From I Just Run on Sun, Oct 09, 2011 at 13:09:57 from 166.137.139.69

I think FW Cowtown Marathon is in Feb. That's the one I was thinking about. I haven't really checked on Houston (I don't really like Houston though...don't tell Flat :-)

No fall foliage, its 85 here today!!!

I'm on vacation. I've never been here either.

I like the idea of running at night :-)

Woah, what day is it in Newport? You are almost 3 weeks ahead of us!

Cowtown will probably be a good one. Houston is closed already.

Yeah, this morning was pretty humid out there. I think you will find the temps just fine after a couple miles. I like to wear a singlet and a throw away long sleeve on top so I can toss it if I get to warm. I read the course description that said it was hilly - how significant are the hills?

Good luck, man!!

Wow...this is weird...There are several comments on this day's blog that were made about a month ago when I was on vacation.

DH,

I think yours is the only current comment. Yes, I" do some layering and wear gloves. sometimes I put duct tape on the toes of my shoes and then pull it off after my feet warm-up :-) The elevation doesn't seem too bad when you look at the course map, here's a link:

http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/13479872

I'll be running out 6.5 and back. It does seems more drastic than what's show on the map. It's probably very similar to what is around my house where I typically run.

Saturday will be a great day for a race, good luck.

Wait.... didn't you just get back from a cruise? It seems like I heard someone say to me on my blog when I went fishing that I had quite the life... hummmm. Seems like I have competition!

From Dave S on Thu, Oct 27, 2011 at 22:39:28 from 4.253.101.194

That's amazing how far you've come in 1 1/2 years. Makes you wonder how much farther you can get in the next 1 1/2. 45 degrees would be my ideal temp I would choose for the start of race as long as it's fairly calm and sunny. Good luck!
