My legs were a little stiff and tired this morning from the evening run. I've realized that although splitting my runs into a morning and an evening run seems easier, the recovery time is not long enough to allow my legs to get back to a normal state. I'm not saying this is bad, just an observation. I still want to see how this works over a longer period of time. I ran 5 miles trying to keep my HR at 140. As usual it took a mile just to get my heart rate to 140 so the first mile is typically well below that rate unless I really run hard and I don't think that's good for the first warm-up mile. I also don't know what's up with the knee. I run hard last evening and it felt great...I run easy this morning and it hurts quite a bit. Maybe it's the way I run when I run slowly that's aggravating it...? Who knows...I'm just going to keep running until it get better or hurts so much that I can't run!

That's usually my strategy - keep going until I start having to limp. Probably not the textbook answer but it keeps me going more often than not.

Good job getting in the miles. Does your knee usually hurt on the day after you've run fast?

In reply to yesterdays comments on biking, I think biking is great to add once or twice a week. I think for us older runners it can help you get a bigger aerobic base without as much chance of injury from running that many extra miles. I usually bike a couple times a week but have really been slacking lately.

Hey Dave,

There's really no rhyme or reason, that I can see, about the knee hurting. As an example I ran the hard miles last night, everthing was great, got up this morning and started running, after about 2 miles slow it started hurting and continued to hurt more and more through the 5 mile run. I came to work and it continued to hurt until about 10:00 am and then voila...no more pain. I really think it's that bone spur floating around. I can't think of anything else that would cause such a random/radical change.
