I don't know if I should be happy or unhappy with this run. Although the scheduled pace was 7:56 for 20 miles and I ran a 7:49 for 20 I still didn't feel it was sucessful. I just felt heavy throughout the run, my legs seemed to get really stiff and I felt like I ran out of energy near the end and I almost feel like my body temperature started dropping too. The effort to finish the run was very difficult even though my HR actually began dropping after mile 15. To run a 7:29 pace for 26.2 miles seems impossible right now!

I don't think I fuled up properly on this run. I felt heavy from the start. After about 14 miles I felt like I just didn't have any energy and my legs got really heavy and stiff. At about mile 18 I started to feel a little sick and after the run I continued to feel bad a while.  Notice how my HR started dropping at mile 16 also.

Hang in there and just keep putting those miles in the bank. You are doing great! I'm no doc. but I think your HR also looks good. It looks to me like your pace slowed a little at the same time your HR dropped. Mine will continue to increase even if I slow down once I get exhausted. I have to stop running to get it to come down at all. How many more long runs do you have before raceday?

Some days you got it and some you don't. Just chalk it up to one of those days that it just wasn't there. You will be fine when the time comes.

I agree with rt and dh. Plus, the important thing is you did the run and the pace they asked for, and then some. You're not supposed to be able to run a marathon at 7:29 pace right now. David said it right, you'll be there when the time comes and you're all tapered after the training cycle is complete.

Hey Guys, thanks for the encouragement and advice. I did a little reading last night and now I'm thinking that most of my problem is related to "fueling" I read some of the Hammer Nutrition book and it seemed to point out several things I did wrong. I'm thinking first, I over ate the day before (Pizza at lunch and for dinner I had fried catfish, fries, beans and fried onion rings). I know, I know...baddddd!!! Sunday before the run was keesh and a big bowl of cheese/broccoli soup. With all this in my system it's no wonder I felt heavy before I even started. I ate a banana and two pieces of flat bread and drank about 16 oz of water right as I went out to run. There was also a few more things like a couple of cookies, lots of ice tea and maybe a few other small things I'm forgetting...I bet you guys are laughing out loud by now reading this thinking "what an idiot" ... well, I'm thinking the same thing. I have never really thought about "fueling" right other than eat a lot, make sure I have enough calories, and run! Now after reading some of the Hammer Nutrition I realize that overeating and over drinking is worse than under eating and drinking. I've got to take a good look at my "fueling" before and during my long training and racing or I'm sure I'm going to fail.

I am not sure it is overeating as much as what you are eating. I don't really carbo load the day before a long run, but I do try to ensure that the majority of calories are from carbs - try to go light on fat and protein.

DH beat me to the punch, it's good to eat a lot but quiche, soup, onion rings, catfish...all relatively low on carbs. I don't start to get picky about what I'm eating until the night before a long run (and the day of).

I think I just need to look at a day or so before long races or long runs. I typically don't eat as I described...usually no fried, pizza maybe once every couple of months and not many sweets. Man it was good...but not good for my running.

BTW...The catfish and the onion rings may be the best in Texas at the restaurant we went to.
