I change my stratagy ... Decided to rest today. I'm thinking 6, 4, 4 miles for Thurs, Fri, Sat. depending on how my legs feel. I may even cut this down if they don't feel completly rested. Any suggestions would be appriciated.

Sounds good, that's exactly what I'm doing except I'm not running 4 on Saturday. I'm taking it off instead. But I know a lot of people like to run a couple miles the day before.

I am certainly no expert, and I think proper tapering varies with every individual. For what it is worth, my personal preference is more taper than less ... I would go 4,4,2. You will not lose any fitness doing that, and any added recovery will lead to greater strength and fresher legs on Sunday. Again, I am no expert, but my strongest runs always come after letting my legs fully rejuvenate prior to the race.

I typically do 7,6,5,4, and then 3 the day before. Last year (with my PR marathon) I did some simple speed work on two of the days to keep my legs fresh and I liked it!! But, really, I know nothing. I just run...I should steal your blog name!

I think you're right. After the problems (knee & lack of training) I've had over the past four weeks and the disastrous run last Friday, letting my body take it easy a little more is probably better. Thanks for the advice.

No problem IJR - like I said I am no expert & it varies with every individual! But, for what it is worth, I did not run at all for the 7 days leading up to St. George last October ... and I got my BQ with a 20 minute improvement over my time on the same course in 2009. Not that I would recommend 7 days straight days off to anyone, but I am pretty sure you will lose no fitness by going light in the days leading up to Sunday, but your legs will get refreshed! Rest up and think positive, Sunday will be a great day!!

I would agree that you will gain more from the rest than any extra miles will give you especially after all the miles you ran the end of last week and the first of this week. My best races have also been after a very light schedule the last few days. I would run a couple of quicker miles at MP or faster probably about 3 days before the race just to keep the legs from getting stagnant. Good luck!
