Evening Report:

Sarah (my wife) got a new Trek Road Bike today so we went for a 7 mile spin. I think this is the first time I've ridden my bike this year!

No running today so I thought I'd post some information about the marathon I'm hoping to run on April 21st. It is in Temple Texas (about 2 hours north from where I live). It's a point to point race with an average 10' drop per mile. The average low temperature for this day is 55 degrees. I'm hoping for a 50 degree day :-) The way the weather has been going lately it is more likely to be 65 degrees at the start.

This is the first running of The Army Marathon and it was created to honor our Soldiers and National Guardsmen on the anniversary of the "Shot Heard Around The World". It is a Boston Qualifier so I'm hoping with some luck I can hit my goal this time.

Here's a picture of the elevation chart and course route. I like the way they make the elevation drop look so drastic!

Love the elevation chart! Hope your quads can handle the severe drop off. :) My birthday is April 19th, the original Shot Heard Round the World day, so I'll be pulling for you extra hard and hoping for 50F temps.

I looked at the chart on the website - it looks different than that one. It really shows the climbers! A couple of the hills are over 100 ft climb in elevation, and a lot of rollers. Sure, it is an overall drop, but I wonder if you will even notice. Just be prepared. Hopefully you will get a nice cool front! Good luck!! Very exciting.

Russ, Thanks!

DH, It seems they changed the chart on the website. The one I posted is the one I printed several days ago. The new one looks much more drastic:-( I'm sure they're the same, just different scales. I guess the rollers will be a lot like were I always run. I don't think the 10' drop will even be noticable but it sounds good anyway. I also considered running the Big-D (Dallas) Marathon on April 14th but have pretty much settled on the Army. Here is the elevation chart on Big-D:

Hope the weather cooperates! The overall downhill is good, maybe it'll offset the hilliness of the course. Still looks tough, but I think you'll do well.

Joe,

I went to a website that compares marathon courses and The Army is tougher than any I have run before (OKC, and Ft Worth) and is even tougher than Big-D. The comparison to Boston would put me running 15 minutes faster at Boston than The Army :-( ...So really not a very good choice!

15 minutes?! Is there an obstacle course too?

From I Just Run on Thu, Apr 04, 2013 at 14:42:10 from 67.79.11.242

Joe

Could ve, this is an Army event!

The marathon looks good. Don't let the charts distract you. Just get out there and take care of business. You're ready!

How did your wife like the new bike?
